Why Film Reasons exists

Film Reasons exists because every image I create with film is intentional. Each frame is carefully considered, every shot has a purpose, and every story is one worth telling.

Film Reasons was born out of a need to create a dedicated space where all my Hasselblad XPan knowledge and experiences could come together—a place where everything revolves around film photography and the Hasselblad XPan/Fujifilm TX-1. Throughout my years of working with these cameras, I realized there was no single source that combined technical insights, artistic exploration, and a gallery of work dedicated to these unique tools.

Analogue photography has shaped my creative journey for over a decade, and over time, panoramic film photography has become an integral part of my artistic identity. I firmly believe that every piece of art must have a reason to exist, and through storytelling, my images gain deeper meaning. The Hasselblad XPan, when used with intention, is a powerful instrument for storytelling—one that challenges and rewards in equal measure.

Meet the photographer: Tom Kluyver

I have been a full-time photographer. I have created for art, social media, exhibitions, magazines—you name it, I’ve explored it. Along the way, I have experienced success, from showcasing my work at Google’s Chicago headquarters to seeing my images published in magazines. Yet, every endeavor came with its own challenges and lessons.

Through this evolving journey, my passion for film photography has only deepened. Film forces me to be present, to create with intention, and to embrace limitations that spark creativity. The panoramic format has been both my greatest challenge and my greatest inspiration—a constraint that continuously pushes my artistic boundaries.

In the end, film photography is just a medium, but the Hasselblad XPan is a tool that speaks to me unlike any other. In a world dominated by digital, it evokes an emotional connection that I haven’t found in any other camera or format.

The Hasselblad XPan: A camera like no other

Before I discovered the Hasselblad XPan, I was constantly looking for ways to shoot wider formats—often stitching multiple frames together in post-processing. However, when working with people, this approach fell apart; movement and spontaneity couldn’t be seamlessly combined in stitched images.

Then I found the Hasselblad XPan, and I instantly knew I had to try it. Over the years, it has proven its worth time and time again. It redefined how I see composition and storytelling, offering an uninterrupted panoramic frame that captures moments in a way no other camera can. It forced me to think differently, to compose with more precision, and to embrace the challenge of creating cinematic narratives in a single frame.
